Bunce Apiary

About

Hi, we're the Bunces

In the spring of 2019 my wife was out for a walk with our infant son when she noticed something that others on the sidewalk had walked right past (and through!): a swarm of bees had taken up a spot in a holly bush just a few feet off the ground, and from the sidewalk. She called me. I left work, drove home, grabbed a wheelbarrow, a bee box, a tarp, a camera... and the rest is history.

What was one hive has grown to more than a dozen. The hive count has long outgrown our backyard, and now we keep a stand of hives at Olson Meadows, a farm our friends operate. Our town bees have the run of the neighborhood trees, with Black Locust and Honey Locust in the spring, some Tulip Poplar, Mimosa and Crepe Myrtle filling in toward summer. Our garden keeps them busy with Borage, Poppies, Coneflowers, Cucumbers, Blueberries, Buckwheat and Clover blooming nearly all year long.

My wife Dominique is my biggest supporter, and pretty good about getting the word out about what we're up to. My son Elliot has been in the bee yard with me since he was 2 and his sister Mae is following that tradition.

We look forward to sharing our honey and our adventures with you.
